What is an American Silver Eagle?
It is the United States Mint’s one-troy-ounce silver bullion coin, first issued in 1986. The Mint also produces collector editions with special finishes. Compare the editions.
Is every Silver Eagle a proof coin?
No. Bullion, proof, reverse proof, and collector uncirculated editions are distinct products. Finish and condition are also different concepts. Learn about finishes.
Why are there two different 2021 eagles?
The reverse changed during 2021. Both the original heraldic eagle and the new landing eagle appear on coins with that date. See the design transition.
Does the one-dollar face value tell me its market value?
No. Face value is the denomination, not an appraisal. This site focuses on history and identification and does not publish live prices. Start your research.
